Design Week 2024: Design to Last, for music, for life

A grassroots discussion and debate about considerations in design, how and why stuff breaks. A workshop on how to design for a better future

Tuesday, November 12 · 11am – 2pm

Tickets available here

Join us for a grassroots discussion and debate about considerations in design and designing circular systems to maintain, refurbish, reuse and redistribute resources. How and why stuff breaks, the finer points of resource management and counteracting planned obsolescence.
We will discuss how to design sustainable products, considering materials and construction techniques to assist a circular design strategy, along with green alternatives to plastics and carbon sequestration. Explain CITES and other initiatives that have come before. How communities can develop circular systems for everyone’s benefit. The Theme of Imagination for Opportunity describes how we can imagine communities being creative and creating opportunities from a circular economy.
12 noon: tea, coffee and snacks
12:30pm workshop – Repair and Design
The 2nd half of the event will be a workshop aimed at a grassroots circular economy approach. Bring along broken equipment and instruments to see how it broke and if it can be fixed. We will examine how products can be redesigned and re-evaluated to counteract waste.
At the end we will plant some trees, you will receive a bare root sapling to take home and plant. This brings us back to nature and why we must design for a better future for everybody.
